Hunt’s vision for Kalaeloa is taking shape as the team lays the foundation for the future. Work is progressing on schedule, and with the earthwork complete, crews are focused on utilities and roadways. Underground utilities are being installed on Boxer Road and Copahee Avenue, and roadwork is underway on Kamokila Boulevard, with curbs, gutters and sidewalks taking shape along the 1,300-foot stretch.

KALAELOA, HI  — VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS) and Hunt Companies Hawaiʻi marked a milestone today with the groundbreaking for the Advanced Leeward Outpatient Healthcare Access (ALOHA) project in Kalaeloa. Upon completion, the $120 million, 88,675 square-foot multi-specialty outpatient clinic will provide primary and mental health care, x-ray, laboratory and diagnostic services, a pharmacy, and specialty care for more than 87,000 veterans on Oʻahu.

A first step in preparing Kalaeloa for future development took place today as Hunt Companies held a groundbreaking ceremony near Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Avenue and Boxer Road. The area is the future site of two upcoming catalytic projects—the recently announced state-of-the-art Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic and the building of nearly 400 new homes by local homebuilder, Gentry Homes.

Hunt Companies Inc. has been selected to develop and construct a new 88,675 square-foot, $100,000,000 veterans’ outpatient facility in Kalaeloa. The team, comprised of local Hawaii entities, was selected through a competitive procurement process.

Anthony “Tony” Gaston has joined Hunt’s Hawai‘i Development Region as Vice President – Development. The Hawai‘i industry veteran has three decades of experience in development, construction and engineering.

Gentry Homes Ltd. will purchase 30 acres of vacant land behind the Kapolei Costco from Hunt Cos. and plans to build nearly 400 homes, as part of the first residential development on the more than 500 acres of former Navy land Hunt acquired more than a decade ago.

In 2020, Hunt Companies executed over 100,000 square feet of new leases in Kalaeloa. The incoming tenants include a variety of businesses which are establishing or deepening their roots in Kalaeloa, adding to the wide array of convenient services currently available to the community.

Hawaii public charter school DreamHouse Ewa Beach has moved to Kalaeloa, and will be unveiling its new site for the 2020-2021 academic school year on Aug. 4, officials with the school announced Thursday.

A variety of new companies are establishing or deepening their roots in Kalaeloa, adding to the wide array of convenient services currently available to the community. In April, Hunt and the Navy signed a new lease to ensure that the NEX Touch ‘N Go in Kalaeloa will serve active duty and retired members of the military community for the long-term.

Honolulu, Hawa`i, July 31, 2018 — Alexandra "Alex" Dosenhas joined Hunt Companies’ Hawai`i Development Division as Assistant Asset Manager.

Mike Lamhas joined Hunt Companies’ Hawai`i Development Division as Senior Vice President. The industry veteran has more than 15 years of experience in real estate development in Hawai`i and across the Pacific Rim.

The back of the Costco warehouse in Kapolei is within sight of a grassy, vacant parcel of land where Kapolei’s Main Street dead ends, but it seems a world away from the new shopping centers and homes that have sprung up over the past 25 years in Oahu’s Second City. 

In this position, Lee will oversee many of Hunt’s development projects and assets in Hawai‘i, including 540 acres in Kalaeloa; the 32-acre Waikele Bluff; Makaloa, a 68-unit for-sale residential project in Maui; and the redevelopment of Mayor Wright Homes for the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority.

Construction is expected to start Oct. 1 to convert a former military barracks at the old Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Kalaeloa into affordable rental apartments following state approval of the plan Tuesday.

As part of this effort, Hunt plans to renovate the former bachelor officer quarters (BOQ) and revive it as rental housing with 100 one-bedroom reserved-housing apartments.

A quiet transformation is taking place in Kalaeloa that is bringing life back into the former Naval Air Station. Over the last four years, Hunt’s revitalization efforts in Kalaeloa have more than doubled the number of businesses on its land—attracting 30 commercial tenants that support more than 550 jobs.

In August, a dozen of Hunt's Hawai'i team members braved the heat to work with the Hawaiian Railway Society to restore O'ahu’s only historic railroad, which happens to run along the northern boundary of Hunt’s properties in Kalaeloa.
