Hunt Companies and Navy Exchange Service Command Enter into Agreement to Allow Navy Exchange Touch ‘N Go Mini-Mart and Service Station to Remain at Kalaeloa

The NEX Touch ‘N Go in Kalaeloa will continue to serve active duty and retired members of the military community under a new long-term lease signed with Hunt.

The 9,100-square-foot full-service gas station and mini-mart is located on Saratoga Avenue.

Hunt has long considered the Touch ‘N Go to be a critical community service for those in the area who serve and have served, alongside other tenants including the Warrior Ohana Medical Home, a U.S. Army primary-care clinic serving soldiers on the west side of Oahu.

The new long-term lease for the Touch ‘N Go building also includes the current barber shop, NEX Barber Shop, and the Subway.

“This course correction is a tribute to everyone’s interest and effort in keeping our Barber’s Point NEX Mini-Mart open,” says Tom Jacobsen, District Vice President, NEX Hawaii. “I am incredibly grateful and excited that we will be able to continue to serve our military families in this area of the island. The NEX team who operates this store is engrained and committed to this community and the mission of the NEX. They don’t serve customers, they serve family!”

The Navy Exchange Service Command is partnering with the base to replace the aging underground fuel tanks with new above-ground tanks.

The scope and specifics are still being finalized; however, both internal and external elements of the property will experience a refresh intended to provide an updated, safe and welcoming experience for all.

Hunt is still in the early stages of developing its 550 acres in Kalaeloa into a thriving, multifaceted community. To date, the company has invested tens of millions of dollars to reinvigorate the area, attracting organizations including the FBI regional headquarters, American Machinery and Coral Crater Adventure Park. Businesses in Kalaeloa provide critical products and services that are revitalizing the community.

“The NEX Touch ‘N Go has been an important service for active duty military, retirees and their dependents in the West Oahu community for many years,” explains Steve Colón, President, Hawaii Division, Hunt Development Group. “As a Navy retiree and patron of this facility, I know personally what an important community benefit the Touch ‘N Go provides. I am thrilled that we were able to come to terms on an arrangement that will allow the Navy to make significant upgrades to the store and also perform important environmental remediation work. As we continue to invest in Kalaeloa, we look forward to having the Navy with us as a trusted partner. We consider it a valuable tenant and a critical amenity as Kalaeloa continues to evolve in the future.”
